• Each I/O drawer provides 12 PCIe Gen3 slots, six through each 6-slot fan-out module. Four of the twelve slots are
x16 and eight are x8. Note that two PCIe slots in the system node are used to attach the two fan-out modules.
• Zero or two drawers per single-node E870/E880 system in 2014.
• Zero or two or four drawers per two-node E870/E880 system in 2014. Max of four fan-out modules on an individual
system node. Valid configuration examples include:
o TWO drawers: a) two drawers on one node, or b) one drawer on two nodes, or c) ½ of two drawers (two
fan-out modules) on each node
o FOUR drawers: a) two drawers on each node, or b) four ½ drawers on each node (one fan-out module from
each drawer), c) two ½ drawers and one “complete” drawer on each node (two fan-out modules from
different PCIe drawers plus two fanout modules from one PCIe drawer)
• PCIe Gen3 I/O drawers can not be shared between two servers
